District XIII, or Újlipótváros as known by locals, is an area of Budapest located on the Pest side, on the north side of the District V, which has the border set on Nyugati Railway Station. As it is located close to downtown Budapest, you can easily reach it on foot or using the public transport. Few minutes’ walk, we have the beauty and leisure of downtown Budapest. It is remote enough to enjoy great peace of mind.
It is considered as one of the most “family friendly” places to live in Budapest, due to its calmed streets and chilled ambience. In addition, as it is located along the bank of the Danube, it has a very pleasant walk in spring times, with a panoramic view of Pest and Margaret Island.
London has Hyde Park, NYC has Central park, and Paris has Jardin du Luxembourg. Budapest’s green oasis is Margaret Island or Margitsziget, an island in the river Danube that runs through the city.
This last one is a vital point of the district, to which is possible to access through the homonymous bridge, by foot or one tram station. This place is an idyllic forest in the city of Budapest, a place of ease of mind and relaxation well-known by locals as by foreigners.
Here you can practice many sport activities like running (the most popular one), cycling in family or swim in the Palatinus baths, located inside Margaret Island also.
Such is the air of tranquility that reigns in this ambience that no cars are allowed to circulate inside the island.
It also has a small zoo, a waterpark, playgrounds and an open air theater and cinema. As you can see, the island offers a wide range of possibilities!
The Pest side of the city groups most of the jobs in Budapest, as well as its workplaces. One of the main centers to work in Budapest is Vaci Ut. A very long corridor where companies have settled their headquarters in Hungary through these past years…and it’s forecasted to keep growing.
Many expats that come to work in Budapest end up in District XIII, thinking on it as a very straightforward area to be working. However, Vaci Ut. offers a very different vision of a workplace. Most of the companies settled here are very innovative and creative. Also applying it to their workers environments, trying to offer all kind of commodities.
Among the different companies headquartered around District XIII we can find Citigroup Bank, Ericsson, Unilever or KPMG…
In addition, the main meeting point of the district is located in Vaci Ut. This is WestEnd Center. A huge shopping mall with different fashion shops, restaurants, cafés and a very big cinema with the latest premieres. It is one of the biggest in Budapest and can meet our needs and consumerist impulses loosely.
WestEnd Center is located in the Nyugati Railway Station, a central point to transfer between the different public transport lines (4, 6 tram or Metro 3). It is also connected to Szent Istvan Körut, a beautiful avenue full of classic buildings, restaurants and shops. A beautiful walk to reach the center of the city.
